Michael Pierce
President, Pitt Meadows Airport Society
Michael Pierce has served on the Board of Directors since May 27, 2002. He is currently the General Manager of the Pitt Meadows Golf Club, one of the prime reasons the Ridge-Meadows area is considered a golfing destination. Prior to accepting the position of General Manager of the Pitt Meadows Golf Club, he used his extensive experience in strategic planning and financial management of sports facilities to assist others as a Facility Management Consultant. Mr. Pierce has also held the position of General Manager for Planet Ice Coquitlam and Maple Ridge, BC. In this capacity, he was responsible for the operation and administration of two sports facilities that include six NHL sized ice surfaces, a six sheet curling facility, a fitness club, two licensed food and beverage establishments, two concessions stands, a pro shop and a physio-therapy clinic. He was also the General Manager of the Vernon Golf and Country Club, and the Operations Manager for the MacDonald Island Sports Center in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Mr. Pierce has served as a Director in several organizations, including the Fort McMurray Tourist and Convention Bureau, the 1985 Alberta Summer Games, Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce, Okanagan Valley Golf Association, and the Advisory Board at Selkirk College in Nelson, BC. His professional memberships include the Canadian Society of Club Managers. His formal education includes post secondary studies in Business Administration, Engineering, Recreation Facility Management and Turf Management.
In his time off, he enjoys playing golf, hockey, tennis and squash. He also enjoys sailing , computer technology, and carpentry.
Mark Miller
Vice-President, Pitt Meadows Airport Society
Mark Miller was appointed to the Board of Directors November 18, 2008. Mark Miller has been an active aviator and journalist all his professional life. Currently, he is a senior space and aviation journalist at the Discovery Channel and CTV Television News. His work can be seen around the world. His goal is to educate and inspire young people to consider the sciences, aviation and the Air Force as viable career choices. He is also currently active on the Board of Nature Canada and the Museum of Bio Diversity at UBC. He serves as a volunteer with several community organizations, and has written, produced and starred in more than 600 hours of prime time science based television. In the 1990’s, Mr. Miller was one CBC Television’s top war correspondents, working in Cambodia, Africa and the former Yugoslavia. He covered Parliament Hill for 10 years. He remains close friends with many of Canada’s top political, media and business figures. He currently owns three aircraft, and has logged flights on 32 types. He flies daily weather permitting.

Greg Andrews
Treasurer, Pitt Meadows Airport Society
Greg Andrews is the most recent appointment to the Board of Directors of Pitt Meadows Airport Society. He is currently a partner in the Maple Ridge office of MNP LLP, Chartered Accountants.
After graduating from University of British Columbia in 1979 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, Greg commenced articling as a chartered accountant at Deloitte & Touche (formerly Touche Ross & Co.) in New Westminster. Greg received his CA designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of B.C. in 1981. Greg left Deloitte & Touche in 1987, moving into private industry where he spent the next nine years as a controller for three different businesses in the manufacturing sector. In 1991 Greg started his own chartered accountancy practice, which he operated as a sole practitioner, until joining the partnership, Andrews Brown Maroney, in 1997. Currently, Greg is a principle partner in the Maple Ridge office of MNP LLP.
Greg is actively involved in the community having served on the boards of the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Arts Council, Saint Patrick’s Elementary School Education Committee, the Ridge Meadows Protective Services Society and the Maple Ridge Economic Advisory Commission. Greg is currently treasurer of the Golden Ears United Soccer Club and a member of the Saint Patrick’s Church finance committee.
In addition to being involved with the above noted organizations, Greg also is manager / coach of the Golden Ears United Soccer Club Premier Men’s team and was awarded the Chamber of Commerce serving Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows 2010 business person of the year at its annual business excellence awards.
Greg and his wife, Kathy, have lived in Maple Ridge since 1984. Greg and Kathy
have four children, Rachel, Alex, Stuart and Brian.
Dr. Ann McAfee
Dr. Ann McAfee was appointed to the Board of Directors April 01, 2010. Dr. McAfee is retired from the City of Vancouver where she served as a Co-Director of Planning and Director of City Plans. In that capacity, she was responsible for Vancouver’s City Plan, Industry, Transportation and Financing Growth Plans and Business Improvement Program. Dr. McAfee served in this position from 1988 – 2006, prior to which she was the Senior Housing Planner for the City of Vancouver. Here she held responsibility for housing policies, social housing program delivery and Brownfield Redevelopment Strategies.
Dr. McAfee has held several Board Memberships, examples of which include the Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre and the UBC Alumni Association. Canadian National Committees she has been a member of include the FCM Green Municipal Fund Peer Review Committee, the FCM-RAC National Railway Advisory Committee, the National Selection Committee- ACT Housing Grants and the Canadian Housing Design Council.
Awards and recognitions Dr. McAfee has received include the Kevin Lynch Award for excellence in planning from M.I.T., a recognition award from the Urban Development Institute Pacific Region, Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association Appreciation Award and she was an elected member of Lambda Alpha International (Honorary Urban Land Economics Society).
Geoffrey Johnston
Geoffrey Johnston was appointed March 29, 2010 to the Board of Directors of Pitt Meadows Airport Society.
Mr. Johnston is currently Senior Partner and CEO of Johnston, Ross & Cheng Ltd., a full-range fee appraisal firm involving industrial and residential real-estate throughout the Lower Mainland. He has held this position since 1985. Prior to that, he was President of Johnston Property Consultants Ltd., and Vice-President and Senior Appraiser at R.L. Sherman & Associates Ltd. He has extensive experience in financial analysis concerning commercial real estate and small and medium-sized businesses.
From 1969 – 1985 he volunteered as a civilian instructor, served as a commissioned officer in the Canadian Forces reserves, was a flying ground school instructor, an administration officer, served in four squadrons and was the Commanding Officer of 111 (Vancouver) Squadron for seven years.
Murray Day
Murray Day was appointed December 06, 2010 to the Board of Directors of Pitt Meadows Airport Society.
Mr. Day has enjoyed an extensive career in law enforcement, with 32 years of service with the Vancouver Police Department, attaining rank of Inspector in 1997. Prior to working for the Vancouver Police Department he was an instructor for the JIBC Police Academy, International Programs. He has received the Police Exemplary Service Medal, the Vancouver Police Department Chief Constables Commendation and an RCMP Commissioners Commendation for his joint force assignments.
Mr. Day has also served on a number of Boards and Committees, including the Golden Ears Winter Club, Greater Vancouver Crime Stoppers Program, City of Vancouver Emergency Preparedness Committee, E-Comm, Emergency Preparedness Conference Executive Committee and is currently still serving on the Emergency Preparedness in Industry and Commerce Council (EPICC) from 2010 to date.
He has coached baseball and minor football, and umpired in Ladies fastpitch leagues. He is married with two children, is a grandfather and has been a resident of Maple Ridge for 35 years.
Jim Barrett
Jim Barrett is the most recent Director appointed to the Pitt Meadows Airport Society Board. He is serving a two-year term.
His career beginnings lay in the Royal Canadian Air Force, which he joined in 1960, completing his pilot training in 1961. From there, he saw duty as a pilot on a variety of aircraft and Squadrons, also serving as an Instructor. He retired from the Air Force in 1978 as a Major and returned to BC, to take up employment in the aviation industry, as an Aviation Manager and Chief Pilot. He served as a Director on the Board of Directors for Canadian Business Aviation Association for three years.
In 1998 he joined the Board of the Abbotsford International Air Show Society as a Director. He stepped down after serving seven years on the Executive, and six years as Chairman of the Board. He rejoined for a one year term on Feb 02, 2010. He has served on the Board of the Abbotsford Airport Authority until April 2009. He held the position of Operations Manager for the Abbotsford International Airport for one year, from 2008 to 2009.
Jim married in 1963, and has two children, a son 42, and a daughter 41, who is currently enjoying a career as a pilot for Air Canada. In 1993, he and his wife purchased the acreage of her parents in Abbotsford, where they currently reside.
